The band can perform as 2-8 pieces, made up of a tight crew of Philadelphia area musicians that have been playing together for 20 years in different formations of original and cover bands. Combining their love of performing and the Grateful Dead, they strive to grow Four Lean Hounds beyond just an allusion.

In Franklin's tower the four winds sleep
Like Four Lean Hounds, the lighthouse keep
Wildflower seed on the sand and wind
May the four winds blow you home again
